The MAGIC-RR project is pleased to announce a new postdoctoral position at TU Delft. The position focuses on the corrosion of light alloys for research reactor applications and aims to advance understanding of materials ageing processes under reactor-relevant conditions.

Research focus

The successful candidate will join the Corrosion Technology and Electrochemistry (CTE) group at TU Delft’s Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE). The research will investigate how light alloys corrode under simulated operating conditions and explore strategies to prevent material degradation. The work will be conducted in close collaboration with NRG and other European partners in the MAGIC-RR consortium.

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Study corrosion mechanisms in aqueous environments using electrochemical and surface analysis techniques.
  • Design and adapt experimental setups to reproduce reactor conditions.
  • Evaluate corrosion prevention and mitigation strategies developed within the consortium.
  • Contribute to project deliverables, scientific publications, and student supervision.

Candidate profile

Applicants should hold a PhD in corrosion science, materials science and engineering, metallurgical or chemical engineering, or a related discipline, with a strong background in corrosion and electrochemistry. Experience with light metal alloys, electrochemical techniques (PDP, EIS), and surface characterization (SEM, XRD, XPS, AFM) is desirable. Excellent written and spoken English skills are required.

Working environment

The CTE group at TU Delft conducts fundamental and applied research on corrosion mechanisms to improve material durability and sustainability. The group offers access to well-equipped laboratories and a collaborative, interdisciplinary research environment.
